Fruitport Township Police are pleased to partner with Vander Mill, 14921 Cleveland St., Spring Lake in a "Helmet Patrol" to promote safe bike riding and wearing appropriate protective equipment. During the summer months, Fruitport Township Police Officers will be keeping an eye out for children that are wearing helmets while riding their bicycles. On September 22, 2007 the Fruitport Township Police and Fire Departments participated in the Fruitport Orchard Market customer appreciation days by hosting their 2nd annual watermelon eating contest.  It came down to a photo finish as Officer Christiansen for the blue team and Capt. On October 31, Fruitport Township Police Department was pleased to participate with Kainay Community Church in their annual “Trunk or Treat” Halloween event. This community event which is hosted by Kainay Community Church in their parking lot involves members of the church decorating the trunks of their vehicles in various themes.
